Did the original GM trunk lock bezels fasten with a pair of stamped spring nuts or with solid nuts. I have 4 of them.. 2 with spring nuts and 2 with solid nuts (I know 3 of them are repros).. they all have GM part numbers on them (even the repros).

Thanks.. just figured out the originals were threaded studs. I just snapped one threaded stud repro and one OER speed nut repro (all new) before I got the 3rd threaded stud unit to hold :)

Crap pot metal studs.

Yeah,1/4-20 thread on them.I successfully threaded the repop one,but did snap off a little of the bottom of one stud when I took it back off.It looks ok though,so I left it.

Well, I thought I had it all fixed yesterday. This morning I opened the trunk to get something inside, closed it.. then seconds later heard a little pop. One of the studs snapped off again. I put a 4th one on using a small 1/4 drive ratchet.. ever so gently, and that one snapped a stud too just as I got it lightly snugged. these crap cast studs are like butter. Dam.. that's 4 in a row, I would love to find an NOS bezel.

Are you using the repop gasket?Because that will put ALOT of stress on that stud.I wound up tossing it and making one out of bicycly inner tube.

I used jb weld on my original stud that popped off. The bezel wasnt in good shape. The jb weld held, but broke when removing the bezel to replace with the oer one.

That's exactly what happened to me.

I went through two bezels before I got it right. The first one broke the stud at the base. The second one worked like a charm
