WD-40 engine fogging

I read recently that a thin coating of WD-40 over the entire engine will inhibit rust on the chrome and other parts over the winter. Anyone do this? Thoughts?

Keep it off the plug wires and it will work ok....

Sounds like a big mess to me. I always put a good coat of wax on all of my chrome and never had any problems.

+2. I wax the chrome when I wax my paint.

Yeah, that sounded a little messy to me, too. Do you just leave the wax on the chrome over winter then wipe it off in spring?

I know - sounds goofy, but I've read people leaving it on like a barrier over winter. I have some Turtle Wax Chrome Polish handy, good enough?

Why? It's safe on rubber... I've fogged down moist engines to help start them, after all WD stands for Water Displacement. Here's a link to their FAQ's

For the OP's question, I'd try something different myself, that's a mess to clean in the spring. Some of us know from experience...

I have seen WD and other stuff you spray on make the plug wires get soft and go bad. It's the solvents in the spray that screws plug wires and sensors up.
