Wheel studs won’t go in moser axles.

I bought a set of 30 spline moser direct replacement axles for my 80 and I cannot get the wheel studs pulled in. I have Dorman 610-025 and I’ve busted 2 shanked old lug nuts trying to pull them in. My cakes have a thread hole and a blank drilled hole. Are these the right studs? I’m going to get a new open ended nut and try it again but anybody else had this problem?

Well I figured it out. I’m an idiot. Some how I ordered front studs.

Never had a problem installing studs. With the correct stud and a installer like I have, very minimal torque required to pull them through. Glad you figured it out before you damaged anything or compromised the studs.

I’ve always just oiled the stud and hole and pulled them in with a lug nut and never had a problem. The front studs are something like .090 bigger than the rear. That was my problem.

I use the Lisle too. If you have rotational friction it puts stress on the stud plus its harder to pull through. The tool allows you to simply pull it up and through and its very smooth.

Well I got the correct studs and they still won’t fit the blank holes. They fall into them. They did press into the threaded holes fairly tight so I used them.

You need to measure the blank holes/call moser. Sounds like they drilled the axles for a different size. Do not run the press in studs in the threaded holes, they will come loose when they crush the threads and will cause a severe failure.

I’m too OCD to do that! All you have to do is measure the hole! Buy a stud with a knurl design for that size of hole. Super easy. I’ll tell you a washer and a nut is part of the issue! A press or a proper tool makes life easy! You put a little anti-seize on the knurl and threads with the lisle tool and super easy

I have to agree with this. I think you need to get the correct stud for the hole size. Those axles may be drilled for a press in 1/2 inch stud instead of a 7/16 stud, which may be where your problem is. You may need a Ford stud.

These are the type that were used in my rear end , and used them for my C7 front bearing , I would think a HD rear would be using these in either pull in or screw in, as they have that as well, I would look at the order form you placed with Moser it will tell you what it was setup for
