Is it just my wife who can't balance a checkbook or is it many wifes/gfs? My wife deposited $1000, wrote out the check; didn't deduct it from the balance. Also, she said a check hadn't cleared (returned), but it did. Took me almost two hours to sort out the mess. I went back all the way to 1/1/2012 to straighten out the balance.

That's why we have seperate checkbooks. Mine takes like 2 minutes to balance. And she works for NYS in the Workers Comp Division. She decides how much $$$$$ people get when a case is resolved. She's actually brought to me her department's annual budget because no one could figure out the discrepancies. Wonder why NYS tax is so high. But I still love her. And there's still a little time left so I can see the end of the Kings/Coyotes game!! Night:)

balance a checkbook? i havent done that in eons..

Mint.com does that for me whenever i want to know my balance on all my accounts (individually and totalled).... or i can just log into my banks website to check the one account... or just send my bank a text with "bal" for my current balance.

thats just me tho.. product of technology. lol

back to the original question... i think its many.. my GF has a hard time managing money. She has cash, she spends it on whatever.... Until i sat down with her, gave her a budget, took her daily cash/income away from her (she does nails, so she gets a lot of cash incoming daily)... then she finally realized she was just pissing money away on nothing... in fact, was just talking about it a couple minutes ago with her.. she finally has a some savings now.. two months into the "budgeting" method. All bills caught up, some money in savings, and some money left over in the biz account. She gets it... but it took me sitting her down and going thru everything to sink in and then show her it worked. My ex-wife was worse.. hair dresser, same situation (lots of cash daily) she never got it. dug me into a huge hole... now shes he ex for a reason. LOL.

yeah, I don't even write anything in my checkbook (though I still write checks for bills). I have my certain bills that I pay on a certain time, and know not to go crazy and buy anything major. And if I am curious what is currently in my account, I pull it up on my phone/computer.

I HATE checks. Everything I do is cash, credit card or online bill pay (which is a check that the bank deals with).

I don't know many brick & mortar business that will accept personal checks anymore

I have three different checking accounts, and they are balanced every single day. Why shouldn't they be as long as you write everything in as you go?

Same as my house, it's always clean. Why shouldn't it be if everyone is picking up after themselves?

The only check I write anymore is for my water bill, everything else gets paid via online billpay on my banks website.

Now that I think of it I can't remember the last time I had to order new checks, it's been years.

Last week a good friend of mine was talking about he and his wife balancing the checkbook and entering everything into a ledger, I laughed because I thought he was kidding.

Personally I just go to my credit unions website to see all of my account activity.
