Don't advance the cam put it in straight up, Comp already builds in +4° in from the factory. That will put it in at +8° and will not pull well over 4500 believe me I know.
Thanks for the advise , I didn't know that. ? Whats your engine plans for next years race season?

Are you running stock rocker arms with self locking nuts or aftermarket rockers with poly locks. The ARP studs are great but are not recommended with self locking nuts......just a heads up. When you added your spacer, seemed like you lost some bottom end.....wonder if a jet change would have change your results.
I'm hoping on running the stock rockers arms if they will allow up to .520 valve lift ? As far as the ARP, studs using the stock nuts, I read the same thing. Question? Do you think the stock studs will be ok up to maybe 120 spring seat pressure ? I only was thinking about the ARP in case the stock studs were not up to the task .

I don't think 120 on the seat is too much, especially for big block studs. Years ago I put together a peanut port .030 over 454 and used a Voodoo cam that is 542/554 lift and kept the stock rocker arm studs. The recommended springs for my cam are about 120 @ 1.88 installed height. I did use long slot factory style rockers though. Ran the engine through the break in procedure with some light weight springs then parked the car because I became interested in some other hobbies. So I have zero miles on it since the BB swap. Recently started working on the car again upgrading some things I wanted to change, making good progress and will have it back on the road this spring. It is probably going to be more of a track toy with limited street miles, but I've go to much invested to strip it into a race car.

1st will be a a new cam and header test with the Peanut Port engine after that I may test the L-29 Vortec heads that are just about finished. Later in the year I will put the 406 that I had such good luck with last year and try out the Large Port Vortec heads and more camshaft. 2nd my old 12:1 406 that is got freshened up last year so I will planning on trying out the Dart 215's I just got done porting. It's going to be another fun year I hope.

stock studs are fine on a BBC, use the money saved on needle bearing rockers, using 45 year old ball rockers is foolish, have you tuned the accelerator pump on your carb?

Long slot rockers,, thought so got it. FRom Summitt, depending on valve spring dia, $70-80.. There are other hobbies? I used to have one, it was called competitive pistol /rifle/shotgun shooting.. That seems to be gone now since you cant
buy ammo. Thanks for the advise.

Carb tuning ? Man, I am so done with that. Ive a hand full of pump cams, nozzles, jets.. It is what is..THanks for the advise on the rockers, I figured I had to do something. Im still trying to keep the cost down so I can feed these Grandkids and satisfy my last need for speed. After this,,I will be done. I hope so anyways..

Thanks, As one gets older, you realize one has limited time left to do stuff, so I try to do as much as I can every day even when I feel bad.
