Can you use the metal lock ring on a 1970 steering column on a column that has the newer style plastic locking i.e. 76 Firebird? And I assume my 70 steering wheel will work in the 76 column? I have both columns and before I tear both apart I just wanna make sure I’m not wasting my time
You can use the metal lock plate cover, but you need to replace the lock plate as well.

Ok thank you .
I just had some time to deep dive a bit. It appears there is a non tilt and tilt lock plates. My original 70 is non tilt and the 76 firebird is tilt. Can I use the firebird lock plate?

I don’t mind using the plastic lock plate cover if it will work with my 70 wheel. The column is very tight so I don’t wanna go tearing the whole thing apart. It’s a bit confusing to me

Camaro and Firebird lock plates are the same, sorry should have mentioned the plates are different for tilt and non-tilts.
Can't say for sure on the 70 wheel working with the plastic cover but I would be surprised if it didn't. Someone here should know.
