Oh yeah it stopped like right now. Had to hitch hike back in from 7 miles down a country road and have the old lady tow me back home. I'lll never hear the end of that.
Got it all back together except for the exhaust pushrods and the lower crank pulley spacer. They'll be in tomorrow. Then its fire it up, set the timing and adjust the injection controller a bit, put the hood back on and get ready to race Saturday.

Fired it up yesterday. Sounds much better with the new Straub solid roller cam. Still need to do a little tuning to get the fuel injection where I want it but it will work for the races tomorrow.
Its funny. I was talking to Chris Straub about a cam for this thing and he said the AFR 265s were capable of producing 715 HP with the right cam on a 496. If you do the calculations on trap speed to weight the average HP throughout the run was about 600-610 to the ground which equals ...about 715-720 HP at the crank. Right on the money.
We'll maybe not. I did test the practical limits of the cast Scat crank. 720 HP and 7000 ish RPM didnt agree with it. Seems to have done some damage to #1 rod bearing. Still runs but pressure is down to 10 lbs and #1 spark plug closed up and theres a light rod knock sound. Last run was the clincher. Tearing at all apart right now and the crank will get repaired but the 540 going into to it will be built run 9's. Car practically drove itself no wheel spin and tracked straight as an arrow though so I was happy despite a little crank damage. The new 540 will be a monster.
yanked it out today and did an inspection. Something went through #1. Don't know what. dings on the piston top and on the head. closed up #1 spark plug , Main bearings are toast though. rod bearings look great. Didnt spin so its localized to the crank and no gouging so it should clean up at .010".
